Château of Vaux-le-Vicomte


The castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte, in the Seine & Marne’s department was built from 1658 to 1661 for the Minister of Finances of Louis the XIV, Nicolas Fouquet. He hired the best artists of the time to build his palace.

The architect, Le Vau, the painter, Le Brun and the landscape-painter, Le Nôtre. The success of this castle provoked the jealousy of the King who imprisoned its owner, Nicolas Fouquet, seized the castle and forced the team who participated in the building of Vaux-le-Vicomte to build the castle of Versailles.

N.B.: events take place all year long at the château, such as gastronomic days, a ‘’Big Century’’ day, recreation of tales, visits on evenings with the château illuminated by candles between May and October…
